The Challenge Posed by

Twin Commander Newcomers

horiz_line

Through the years, I have learned that there are a multitude of ways to do things wrong, but usually only a few ways to do them right. And as the complexity of the thing increases, the number of "correct" options usually decreases. While it is often said that we must understand our failures lest we be destined to repeat them, I believe it is equally important to understand our successes, both large and small, so that we can, in fact, repeat THOSE. After all, isn't success much preferable to failure?

In the last two years, quite a few Commanders have changed hands, no doubt due to the attractiveness of aircraft pricing in the current market. These new owners present a unique challenge: How can we, Twin Commander Aircraft and our factory-authorized Service Center network, earn their attention and acceptance of what we are trying to do in terms of supporting, upgrading, and thus ensuring the longevity of the fleet?

While it would be easy to rest on our laurels and tout the reputation the Commander brand has earned in the past, this is not the way to win new friends. Instead, we in the Twin Commander family must revisit past successes and try to do equally as good a job for the newest members of the Twin Commander community.

It's a never-ending challenge, because the group of individuals, companies, and government agencies that own and operate Twin Commanders is continually changing. Remember, you were once a Commander newbie, too. If you are reading this you no doubt understand that our job is to keep the fleet strong, safe, and viable. This is the message we need our new owners and operators to hear, and believe in.

Fortunately, we have the ideal venue to discuss our mission with experienced and new owners alike. As we head to Bonita Springs in Southwest Florida for the 10th biennial Twin Commander University, I am looking forward to spending time with Commander owners, both seasoned and new, as we no doubt will share thoughts and stories about past triumphs and new challenges. We will have a full complement of Twin Commander people present, both Twin Commander Aircraft LLC staff and executives and technicians from our Service Centers.

The University is a wonderful opportunity for all of us to get to know each other better over some great food, fine beverages, and enjoyable socializing, but it is much more than that. The technical sessions that are at the heart of the University experience feature experts on topics ranging from insurance and finance, to radar and engine performance.

But back to the social aspect. The University is known as the premier event where Commander owners and operators can interact and share their own trials and triumphs. For me personally, I get a charge out of speaking with our proud owners. I always walk away from these encounters with a fresh set of legs and a renewed sense of focus on our unwavering support for Commanders everywhere.

If you haven't yet registered, there is still time. It will be great to see you there.
