COMMANDING PRESENCE Greg Laabs

As the maintenance manager for Twin Commander Factory Authorized Service Center Keystone Aviation in Scottsdale, Arizona, Greg Laabs is responsible for the staff, customer service, and level of quality that comes out of the shop. He’s also responsible for the Part 145 repair station. It’s a role for which he’s extremely well qualified.

Laabs has been in various maintenance management positions for 25 years, including stints at West Star Aviation in Colorado; Gulfstream’s service center in Appleton, Wisconsin; Banyan Air in Florida; and more. In that time, he’s done everything from running MRO facilities to working with the FAA to having his hands on TPE-331s.

He was brought into Gemini, later to become Keystone, in 2018 to run the facility and grow its maintenance capabilities. When TAC purchased Gemini earlier this year the company kept him on as maintenance manager and entrusted him with running operations at the Scottsdale location.

In addition to his work with Keystone, Laabs is involved with the Arizona Business Aviation Association, helping to support the next generation of pilots and technicians. He helps with fundraising and awarding scholarships to help grow the local workforce, something that is starting to pay off – he’s begun hiring previous scholarship recipients.

Working with Laabs you get the impression he is upfront and transparent about service needs. “We like the customer to understand why we do what we do,” he said. “They’re getting a true value with us.”
