NEWS Longtime Twin Commander Expert Receives Coveted Award

Glenn Hunt, a longtime Twin Commander technician and Honeywell 331 expert, was recently award the FAA’s Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award.

Hunt is currently a technician with Twin Commander Factory Authorized Service Center Aero Air in Hillsboro, Oregon, where he has served for the last 17 years. Hunt began his career by enlisting in the military in 1971. He served stateside, working on C-141s, including the Hanoi Taxi, which in 1973 carried former prisoners of war out of Vietnam to the Philippines and back to the United States. The airplane is currently on display at the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.

After the military, Hunt earned his A&P certificates at Northrup University in Los Angeles, and then went to work for Rockwell on the B-1A bomber program. He entered the corporate maintenance world with Garret Aviation, where he spent 27 years working at their Los Angeles area service center. During that time, he became an expert on the 331 and 731 engines, and traveled throughout the Pacific working on everything from Twin Commanders to Dorniers and one Lockheed L10-11 owned by a Jordanian prince. “It was a flying palace,” he said. “You couldn’t touch anything without laying your hands on gold.” During his time at Garret, Hunt did everything from routine line maintenance to full engine overhauls.

Hunt has a passion for scuba diving and Formula 1 racing, and has attended more than 25 races around the world.

The Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award recognizes 50 years of experience, and a clean record with the FAA.
