Hard-to-Find Replacement

Parts Now Available

horiz_line

hid lightsTwin Commander Aircraft is working on several parts initiatives that will result in the availability of new upgrade kits and previously hard-to-find replacement parts.

The High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Light kit for JetProp models is now ready for shipping. This kit is similar to the one developed earlier for 690, 690A, and 690B models.

The new JetProp HID lights are mounted in the recessed, covered ports used in the current landing light configuration, and serve as both landing lights and recognition lights. One light is aimed straight ahead and the other slightly downward for maximum visibility of the runway at night, and maximum conspicuity of the Twin Commander to other aircraft in flight night or day. The HID lights are at least as bright as the standard tungsten landing lights, but with an average life of 2,000 hours, should provide far longer life.

Also, a new nose gear bungee assembly is under development. A new vendor will be producing the entire assembly, which is used for emergency extension of the nose gear. The assembly is comprised of a large spring and sliding tubes. The spring is loaded (under compression), and if a loss of hydraulic pressure renders the landing gear system inoperative, the spring will extend the nose gear. (The main landing gear has a pneumatic blow-down emergency extension system.)

As reported in Commander Tips on page 6 in this issue, new replacement engine control cable nuts are now available from Twin Commander.

The nut is on the threaded end of each of the push-pull cables that are actuated by the engine power and condition levers. The nut also forms a seal on the outer casings of the cables to maintain pressurization, but existing nuts have a tendency to leak past the seal. Warm, moist air from inside the cockpit that leaks past the seal can freeze when it hits cold ambient air, making it difficult to manipulate the power levers.

The newly designed replacement nut has an improved seal that will do a better job of preventing leaks and holding pressurization.

Finally, new replacement electric fuel pumps for the low pickup points in the wing tanks are now available. A paperwork issue that prevented the pumps from being sold as approved aircraft parts has been resolved, and now the pumps are available through Twin Commander Aircraft.
