Fred Gatz with his Lifetime Achievement Award

Fred Gatz, a structural engineer specializing in Twin Commanders, is the latest to be recognized with a Lifetime Achievement award from Twin Commander Aircraft.

"Fred Gatz is our go-to guy when it comes to designing and certifying structural upgrades and improvements to the Twin Commander airframe," commented Twin Commander Aircraft President Matt Isley, who presented the award to Gatz at the recent Twin Commander Service Center Symposium.

Gatz began his career with Aero Commander in Bethany, Oklahoma, in 1967 working in the design group. He took a two-year sabbatical to work on DC-10 wing design analysis for McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis, returning in 1970 to Bethany and what was then Rockwell Commander. He remained there until 1988 when he founded GTEC, an engineering consulting firm. He has been providing engineering support to Twin Commander Aircraft and authorized service centers ever since.

In 1991 Gatz's son, Gary, joined his father's firm. Together they work on structural issues related to repairs, modifications, supplemental type certificates, and service bulletins.

"Twin Commander Aircraft is totally focused on providing the parts, products, services, and technical resources that ensure the worldwide fleet of Twin Commanders remains at the top of its class in terms of safety, reliability, performance, and technology," Isley said. "Fred Gatz is a key reason why we are successful in providing that level of support. Our congratulations to him for his long, loyal, and valuable service."
